Explain the purpose of the salt bridge? Why is it necessary for the battery to work?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

It is important to use the saline bridge with saline solution so that electrical neutrality may be maintained. This means that the presence of the saline bridge will compensate the presence or absence of charge in the vessels. In the anode, electrons will flow through the circuit, leaving positive charge and positive ions, which will have as a counterpart the negative ions released by the bridge. In the cathode, same thing will happen, only that negative charge will be present and saline bridge will provide positive ions.
