12. Which of the following undergoes the most rapid nitration when treated with nitric acid in the presence of sulfuric acid? a. Benzene b. Toluene c. Para-dichlorobenzene d. Aniline

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Answer,

Nitration of aniline is faster than the a) benzene, b) toluene and c) p-dichloro benzene

The toluene cannot form this type of stable resonance structure. So nitration of toluene is slow.

Halo benzene, though it can form a sigma resonance structre but it caanot form stable sigma resonace structure. Therefore halobenzene nitration is slower than aniline nitration.
