In the synthesis reduction reaction of ketone (9-Fluorenone) to form alcohol (9-Flourenol) using NaBH4/ethanol, and acid - why is it necessary for acid to be at cold temperature when added to Flourenone, NaBH4, ethanol mixture in order to form final alcohol product? Does it have to do with H+ reaction with BH4- and the formation of H2 gas?
