6) Calculate the percent transmittance of solutions with half the absorbance of those in Problem 4. (a) 72.6%; b) 17.8%; c) 95.6%)

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Formula for calculation of Absorbance=

A=2- log10%T, FROM THIS FORMULA WE CAN FIRST CALCULATE THE ABSORBANCE,

FOR a) 72.6 %,

then A=2-log10 of 72.6,=2-1.86= 0.139,

b)17.8 %T,

THEN A=2-log10 of 17.8=2-1.25=0.7495,

c) 95.6%T, THEN A=2-log10 of 95.6=2-1.98=0.019,

now for the half absorbance what will be the %T,

FOR a) A=0.139/2=0.0695,b)A=0.749/2=0.3745, c) A=0.019/2=0.0095, THEN WE CAN CALCULATE THE

%T for above absorbance= A = log10 100 / %T

10-A = 10(log(%T/100)
10-A = %T/100,
100*10-A = %T , by putting the values,

a)100*10-0.0695=85.21%,

b)100*10-0.3745=42.21%

c)100*10-0.019=97.719%
