Homework Answers

Answer #1

a) calculation of the length of a face diagonal (F):

the diagonal of each face has a length of 4 r, where r is the radius of an atom.

the length of a face diagonal (F) in simple cubic = 4r

here r= 1.00 A

F= 4r = 4*1.00 A = 4.00A.

b) Calculation of the % void space:

The % void space = 100% of simply cubic - minus the percentage of occupied volume.

the %occupied space = π/ 6 = 3.14/6=52.3 %

So;

The % void space = 100% of simply cubic - minus the percentage of occupied volume.

The % void space = 100% - 52.4%

= 47.6 %
