2 L hydrogen chloride gas

PV = nRT

P = 1 atm

V = 2L

n = ?

R = Gas constant 0.0821 L atm K-1 Mol-1

T = 273

substitute in the equation and find n

1 x 2 = n x 0.0821 x 273

n = 08923 mole

0.08923 mole of hydrogen chloride gas need 0.5 equivalent (0.08923 = 0.044615 Mole ) of Cl2 gas.

Hence volume of 0.044615 mole of Cl2

P = 1 atm V = ? n = 0.044615 T = 273

1 x V = 0.044615 x 0.0821 x 273

V = 1 Lit

Hence 1 litres of chlorine gas need  to react to produce 2 L of hydrogen chloride gas

give the same volume which is 2 Liter
