What is the pH of pure water with 10-2 M NaOH added? What is the alkalinity?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

NaOH is strong base

NaOH(aq) ------------> Na^+ (aq) + OH^-

10^-2 M                                          10^-2 M

[OH^-]   = [NaOH]

[OH^-] = 10^-2M

POH = -log10^-2

          = 2

POH = 2

PH = 14-POH

        = 14-2 = 12

Alkalinity is the name given to the quantitative capacity of an aqueous solution to neutralize and acid
