1=What mass of water is produced from the complete combustion of 7.30×10−3 g of methane?

2-What mass of oxygen is needed for the complete combustion of 7.30×10−3 g of methane?

Answer #1

The balanced combustin of methane can be represented as

Molecular weights : Methane =16 O2=32 CO2=44 and H2O=18

CH4+2O2---> CO2 +2H2O

1 mole of CH4 produces 2 moles of H2O ( Moles= mass/Molecular weight, mass= molecular weight*Moles)

16 gm of methane produces 2*18= 36 gms of water

7.3*10-3gm of methane produces 7.3*10-3*36/16 =0.016425 gm of methane

1mole of CH4 requies 2 moles of oxygen

16 gm of methane requires 32 gm of oxygen

7.3*10-3gm of methane requires 7.3*10-3*32/16 =0.0146 gm of oxygen

Constants | Periodic Table The coefficients in a balanced chemical equation provide the mole-to-mole stoichiometry among the reactants and products. The molar mass (in g/mol) can be used as the conversion factor between moles and the mass of a substance. Thus, the balanced equation and molar masses can be used in conjunction with one another to calculate the masses involved in a reaction.
