Scrutinize the 13C NMR spectrum of the methyl 3-nitrobenzoate
If you had not kept watch over the reaction temperature, how might this affect the 13C NMR of the product isolated from this reaction?
(Hint: what product is likely to be obtained at higher reaction temperature?)
Information about the reaction is not gien. I am suspecting it is amout the nitration of methyl benzoate.
In this reaction if temperature is properly conroled, mono nitration takes place and if the teperature is not controled and it is increased, at the high temperature there is an high possiblity of di nitration .
When there is only one nitro group in the molecule, we see total 8 signals or lines in the corresponding 13 C NMR spectrum.
If a second nitration happens the molecule will certainly become symmetrical and the number of peaks in the 13C=s[ectrum decreases to 6.
Two predicted spectra are given .
