Sketch or list a potential sequence of steps in the production of gasoline from crude oil.

Answer #1

Gasoline is made from crude oil through a process known as fractional distillation.

The oil is pumped into fractional distillation tower and heated to 600° F . This causes all small molecules to evaporate. The vapors rise into column till 150 feet

The vapours cool as they rise through the tower .

The heavier molecules condense first lower in the tower and shorter and lighter molecules condense higher in tower.

Gases such as gasoline and kerosene are released near the top.

This way fractional distillation removed gasoline from the vrude oil and then refined to improve the quality.

4.The Bartlesville Oil Refinery converts crude oil to gasoline. It takes one barrel of crude oil to produce one barrel of gasoline. Total cost of producing q barrels of gasoline at the refinery isTC = ½ q2+ wq where w is the price of a barrel of crude oil. Marginal cost is therefore dTC/dq = q+w a.Suppose the refinery can purchase 50 barrels of oil for $5 per barrel, but must pay $15 per barrel for any barrels it buys...

Problem 1: Oil Production Data: The Data in the following are the annual world crude oil           production in millions of barrels for the period 1880-1988. The data are taken from Moore and McCabe( 1993, p. 147). Construct a scatter plot of the oil production variable (OIL) versus Year and observe that the scatter of points on the graph is not linear. In order to fit a linear model to these data, OIL must be transformed. Construct a scatter plot of...
