3-ethylpentane - We know the parent alkane is pentane and on the carbon number 3 there is ethyl as substituent.

3-ethyl -2-methylheptane - We know the parent alkane is heptane and on the carbon number 3 there is ethyl as substituent and on the carbon number 2 there is methyl as substituent.

4-ethyl-2,2-dimethyloctane - We know the parent alkane is octane and on the carbon number 2,2 there are two methyl and on the 4 there is ethyl as substituent.

2-bromopropane - We know the parent alkane is propane and on the carbon number 2 there is bromine as substituent.
