Nutrient medium in an insulated fermentation tank is diluted and brought to sterilisation temperature by injection with clean steam. Ten thousand kg of liquid medium at 130⁰ C is required at the end of the process. Initially, the medium concentrate in the tank is at 40 ⁰ C; the steam used is saturated at 220⁰ C.
