In the correct equation for the reaction of sodium with water, the sum of the simplest whole-number coefficients is:

Homework Answers

Answer #1

The balanced equation is : 2Na(s) + 2H2O (l) 2NaOH(aq) + H2(g)

Here the coefficient of Na is 2

the coefficient of H2O is 2

the coefficient of NaOH is 2

the coefficient of H2 is 1

Therefore the sum of the coefficients of reactants is 2+2 = 4

the sum of the coefficients of products is 2+1 = 3

The sum of the coefficients of both reactants & products is 4+3=7
