A) Is an aqueous solution of salt CH3COOLi acidic, basic or neutral?

B) Calculate pH of 0.5 M CH3COOLi solution. Given pKa of CH3COOH = 4.74

C) Report % dissociation

Homework Answers

Answer #1

A)

CH3COOLi is the basic salt .

because it is formed form weak acid CH3COOH and strong base LiOH. so the basic property is dominent.

B)

pH more than 7

pH = 7 + 1/2 [pKa + logC]

pH = 7 + 1/2 [4.74 + log 0.5]

pH = 9.22

c)

pH + pOH = 14

pOH = 14 -9.22

pOH = 4.78

[OH-] = x = 1.66 x 10^-5 M

percent dissocaition = 1.66 x 10^-5 x 100 / 0.5

                                  = 0.0033 %
