How is cortisol extracted with methanol? Rather what is the mechanism by which this occurs? Draw a diagram if possible
Below is structure of cortisol
due to presence of OH group on cortisol, it can form hydrogen bond with OH group of methanol.
So it becomes easily soluble in methhanol.
If we add some methanol to sample containing cortisol, we can extract the methanol layer and then we can evaporate methanol to get pure cortisol
you see that there are some OH group in cortisol. This hormonr thus forms hydrogen bonds with H of mmethanol, and iis easily soluble in Methanol.
If methanol is added to sample containing cortisol, methanol can extract cortisol.
