A solution is 0.10 M Pb(NO3)2 and 0.10 M AgNO3. If solid NaCl is added to the solution, what is [Ag+] when PbCl2 begins to precipitate? (Ksp PbCl2 = 1.7 x 10-5; AgCl = 1.8 x 10-10)

Homework Answers

Answer #1

AgCl will precipitate first (as the Ksp is lower than PbCl2), until the ionic product equates to the Ksp. Then PbCl2 will start to precipitate.

Suppose we have a solution of lead nitrate, Pb(NO3)2(aq). A solution of NaCl(aq) is added slowly until no further precipitation occurs. The precipitate is collected by filtration, dried, and weighed. A total of 13.93 g of PbCl2(s) is obtained from 200.0 mL of the original solution. Calculate the molarity of the Pb(NO3)2(aq) solution. ? M
