Determine whether the metal in the ionic compounds Cr2O3, NaI, CaBr2 and SnO form only one type of ion or more than one type of ion and name the compound accordingly.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Cr2O3 => Chromium (iii) oxide . here the Chromium is a metal and the compound is the chromium oxide here the compound is having the chromium metal and it is showing the only one type of the ion i.e chromium +3 ion only

NaI => sodium(i) iodide and here the sodium metal is showing the +1 charge i.e it can shows only Na+ ion

CaBr2 => Calcium (ii) bromide here the metal is Calcium is showing the Ca2+ ion and the calcium is showing the only one type ion i.e Ca2+

SnO => Tin(ii)oxide and here the tin showing the Sn2+ ion only

in the all above ionic compounds the metal shows the only one ion because the compounds are forms the only one type of ions when dissolves in water

Net Ionic Equations In many chemical reactions of two or more compounds, ions are present in the solution that do not participate in the reaction. These ions, known as spectator ions, can be removed from the chemical equation describing the reaction. A chemical equation that has the spectator ions removed is known as a net ionic equation. Reactions between ionic compounds often result in the precipitation of an insoluble compound. Spectator ions and precipitation products of a chemical reaction can...

Chemical Reactions Types and Their Equations Making Heat with Chemical Reactions Have you ever wondered how an instant heat pack works? A disposable heat pack works by a chemical reaction that combines iron in the package with oxygen from the air when the outer packaging is removed producing iron oxide. You have probably seen the product of this reaction in what is commonly called rust. The reaction releases heat, which allows the pack to reach a sufficient temperature that is...
