6) Why aren’t bridges made from stainless steel?
Please explain in clear words. Thanks
Dear Friend,
Steel is very expensive to construct bridges. Moreover steel contains Iron metal as a major constituent. It is well known that Iron gets corroded if the bridge is in contact with water containing soluble salts like NaCl, KCl etc and in presence of small acidic nature of water iron gets more corroded. Corrosion leads to detiorate strength of steel frame, makes it brittle, less tensile strength so on. Frequently painting also required to protect from corrosion and for maintenance of the bridge.
All the best my friend.
