which of the following compounds will conduct electricity in solution? Circle all that apply. A) AgCl B) KOH C) Ca(No3)2 D) C6H12O6 E) HBr

Homework Answers

Answer #1

For conducting electricity the solution must contain ions. That is the dissolved compounds should be soluble and breaks into ions (compounds having ionic bonds) as positive and negative.

  1. Agcl – silver chloride – slightly soluble in water. It can conduct electricity until it dissolved in water
  2. KOH – Potassium hydroxide – can form ions and can conduct electricity
  3. Ca(NO3)2 – Calcium nitrate – can form ions and can conduct electricity
  4. C6H12O6 – Glucose – made up of covalent bonds. Do not break up easily to form ions in water. Hence it does not conduct electricity
  5. HBr – Hydrogen bromide does not conduct electricity as it formed as a result of covalent bond formation and also it is a non-metal
