Two of the types of infrared light, IR-C and IR-A, are both components of sunlight. Their wavelengths range from 3000 to 1,000,000 nm for IR-C and from 700 to 1400 nm for IR-A. Compare the energy of microwaves, IR-C, and IR-A.

Answer #1

According to Planck's quantum theory, the energy of an electromagnetic radiation is given as

E = h = hc /

Hence energy of an electromagnetic radiation is inversely proportional to the wave length(). Hence higher is the wave length lower is the energy.

The wavelength range of microwave = 1000000 nm to 300000000 nm (highest and lowest energy )

Wave length range of IR-C : 3000 nm to 1000000 nm

Wave length range of IR-A : 700 mn to 1400 nm (lowest and highest energy)

Hence order of energy is

IR-A > IR-C > microwave

An extremely thin sheet of glass is being inspected at the factory. Illuminated by white light at near-normal incidence, the film-like sheet is 0.397 µm thick and has air on both sides. If the glass has a refractive index of 1.52, what wavelength of visible light (in nm) does it reflect most strongly? (The wavelengths of visible light range from 400 to 700 nm.)

The work function of a surface determines the minimum ______________ of light which will cause electrons to be emitted. A: wavelength B: frequency C: intensity Visible light has wavelengths ranging from about 400 nm at the violet/blue end of the spectrum up to about 700 nm at the red end of the spectrum. PART A Two light waves of the same frequency start out in phase (with amplitudes going up at the same moment), and they interfere having traveled different distances.  What happens if the path difference in the two waves is 1200 nm and the wavelength of the light is 400 nm (blue light)? The waves add in step and the  time-averaged power at that place is 4x that of one wave alone. The waves add in step and the  time-averaged power at that is...

A light-emitting diode (LED) is a semiconductor device (p-n junction diode) that emits light when an electric current is passed through it. LEDs are becoming the most popular light sources because they are much more energy efficient than conventional incandescent light sources. While the "white" light produced by a light bulb or the sun is a blend of many different colors, and these sources typically produce a large amount of heat, LEDs release only one particular color of light, and...
