3-bromo-5-methoxybenzoic acid
Steps to be followed while drawing structure of substituted aromatic compound 3-bromo-5-methoxybenzoic acid.
1)As name ends with benzoic acid it’s clear at it’s an aromatic carboxylic acid derivative. Hence first structure of benzoic acid is drawn i.e. Benzene ring substituted with –COOH group. Then aromatic carbons are numbered, starting with C bearing –COOH group.
2)Then 3-Bromo indicate presence of –Br as substituent at C3 position. And –H there on C3 is replaced with Br.
3) 5-methoxy indicates presence of methoxy –OMe or –O-CH3 group at C5 position. And so –H at C5 position is replaced by –O-CH3 group.
Hence the structure of 3-Bromo-5-methoxybenzoic acid.
