Question

where are the s-sp3 carbon hydrogen bonds in C11H18

where are the s-sp3 carbon hydrogen bonds in C11H18

Homework Answers

Answer #1

S - SP3 bond is formed between H - atom and a SP3 hybridised C - atom. An SP3 hybridised C - atom is one that makes 4 sigma bonds.

Degree of unsaturation of C11H18 = (2C + 2 - 18) / 2 = (2x11 + 2 - 18) / 2 = 3

Hence there could be either 3 Pi bonds or there are cyclic structures. Hence C11H18 has many different type of structures which are called isomers. Let's find out the S - SP3 bonds present in one of these structures.
