Hi
I am in the STEM Capstone and I am doing a project and I am tested the cooling power of a fan powered by solar energy I am going to wrap a thermometer in a "saturated solution" and then let the fan cool it and record the change in temperature. Should I use water or is there a better "solution" to use to get a larger change in temperature?
Answer :
1) Water is a good solvent for thermodynamic experiment because of it's large liquid temperature range (0 to 100oC).
2) It has Heat capacity 4.184 J/g.K at constant pressure i.e. 1 g of H2O absorbse 4.184 J of heat energy to effect the temperature increase by 1 K which is enough good and large for precise calculations in Enthalpy change experiments.
So Water is best choice for preparing solution involving large temperature change.
