Theoretical Yield: It is how much product will be synthesized in ideal conditions.

To determine theoretical yield, multiply the amount of moles of the limiting reagent by the ratio of the limiting reagent and the synthesized product and by the molecular weight of the product.

1mole of 2-Bromomethyl benzene = 1mole of 2-methyl benzoic acid (M.wt=136.2g/mol)

Therefore, theoritical yield = 0.025*1mol 2-MBA/1mol2-BMB*136.2g2-MBA/1mol2-MBA

= 0.025*1/1*136.2 = 3.405g

Therefore, in a perfect experiment, 3.045 g of 2-Methylbenzoic acid will be synthesized.

Since Grignard reagent and carboxylic acid are soluble in organic solvents they can be purified by recrystallization.
