A coin collector purchased several coins which he believed to contain 25% nickel, where the coin is covered by a layer (or shell) of nickel. He had one analyzed to verify the percent content of nickel. The following data was obtained:
Thickness of the coin is 3.0 mm
Mass of the coin is 10.206 g
Diameter of the coin is 2.85 cm
Concentration of nickel in the coin(as determined spectrophotometrically) is 2.858 mg/mL
Density of pure nickel is 8.902 g/cm3
Determine the mass percent of nickel
