Please explain solvent stress cracking and environmental stress cracking.

Answer #1

Environmental stress cracking represents the poor quality of thermoplastic polymers, due to internal strain. There are the many reasons which cause internal strain in plastic that lead to environmental strain cracking it can be due to exposure of plastic to corrosive liquid or mechanical stress. Environmental stress crack breaks the secondary linkage between polymers. solvent stress cracking is a type of environment stress cracking. A large amount of internal stress generated when plastic exposed to the solvent which when penetrates inside result in the crack generation.

Which is the better nucleophile in no solvent, in an aprotic solvent, and a protic solvent? Cl- or Br- I was under the impression that Cl- was the better nucleophile because it is smaller and can not stabilize the charge as well as Br- thus making it a better nucleophile when in no solvent/ aprotic solvent I also thought that because the charge is more concentrated in Cl- it was more suscelptible to being protonated in a protic solvent, thus...
