If 60.6 grams of aluminum powder reacts with 125 grams of iron(III)oxide, how much iron metal is recovered?
Solution :-
Balanced reaction equation
2Al + Fe2O3 ----à Al2O3 + 2Fe
Using the mole ratio of the both reactant we can find the mass of the Fe that can be formed
Calculating the mass of Fe from mass of Al
(60.6 g Al * 1 mol / 26.982 g)*(2 mol Fe/ 2 molAl)*(55.845 g / 1 mol Fe) = 125.4 g Fe
Calculating the mass of Fe from Fe2O3
(125 g Fe2O3* 1 mol / 159.7 g )*(2 mol Fe/ mol Fe2O3)*(55.845 g / 1 mol fe) = 87.4 g Fe
Since the Fe2O3 gives lerss mass of Fe so the Fe2O3 is the limiting reactant and maximum mass of the Fe that can be formed = 87.4 g
