55. Most lawnmowers do not have catalytic converters (at least as this book went to press). What comes out of the tailpipe of a gasoline-powered lawn mower? Why has adding a catalytic converter been so controversial? What are the immediate benefits to curbing these emissions, as well as the longer term ones?

Answer #1

answer :

The emissions through the tailpipe of a lawnmower are similar to those of a car, but may be in larger amounts proportional to the amount of fuel burned. These emissions include carbon, carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons, nitrogen oxides, and water vapor. Adding a catalytic converter is controversial because manufactures claim that it will increase the heat in an already hot engine increasing the risks of engine fires. Manufacturers also claim that they can meet pollution regulations without adding catalytic converters
