What is the solubility of MnS, in g/L, in a buffered solution that is 0.205 M HC2H3O2 and 0.265 M NaC2H3O2. (Hint what is the function of the buffer solution?) Ksp = 3.0 x 10–14 for MnS.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Ksp = 3*10-14

MnS -----> Mn+2 + S-2

                x         x

Ksp    = [Mn+2][S-2]

3*10-14 = x*x

x2       = 3*10-14

x       = 1.73*10-7 M

solubility of MnS = 1.73*10-7 moles/L

                         = 1.73*10-7 * molar mass

                       = 1.73*10-7 *87 = 150.51 g/L
