A polymer is a large molecule built up by repetition of many, smaller chemical units. Polymers contains chains of different length with no chemical bond between chains. A cross-link is a bond or bridge that links one polymer chain to another.

Crosslinking can be done chemically or by irradiation.

Example: Chemical crosslinking with rubber material is called Vulcanization. It is done by a reaction induced by heat between the polymers and a crosslinking agent.

Crosslinking agent: Peroxide, sulphur
