In this expriement, four safety-coated, low-does aspirin pills were crushed into a fine powder. The crushed aspirin and water were then put in a hot water path and filtered. Then the aspirin mixture was put in an ice water bath and then filtered leaving only the aspirin crystals formed from the ice bath. The question is what imporant characteristics of aspirin were used to separate it from the other pill components?
Solution :-
The solubility of the aspirin in the water at the different temperatures is used to separate the aspirin from the other pill components.
At the higher temperature aspirin is soluble in water so it gets dissolve when powder is added to water and heated and by filtering it the dissolved aspirin remain in the filtrate and other solid impurities are removed then when the filtrate is placed in the ice bath then at lower temperature aspirin is insoluble in water so it forms the crystals so it recovered as the crystals of the aspirin.
So the important property of the aspirin used to separate it from the other pill component is the solubility of the aspirin in water at the different temperatures.
