In class today we learned how much ATP could be made
using the energy released by the reduction of O2 by
NADH. Now do the same thing but showing how much ATP can made from
the reduction of O2 by FADH2! HINT:use the redox
table
Standard Reduction Potentials
FAD + 2H+ + 2e---> FADH2 -0.22
1/2 O2 + 2H+ + 2e---> H2O 0.82
Using Nernst Equation
∆Go= - n F∆Eo being ∆Eo= 0.82 – (-0.22) = 1.04 V
∆Go= -2 x 23.060kcal/volt x 1.04= -47.9 kcal/mol of FADH2
ATP needs 7,3 Kcal/mol
SO= 47.9/7.3= 6.5 ATP in theory, its important to note that this do not happen because the body has 40% of efficency in it´s best, so it makes only 2.5 ATP per FADH2
