Assign the significant figures for the obtsined answer which must contain the least number of significant figures present in the original numbers.

for example,

25.62 * 10.9 = 279.258

from the two numbers 25.62 have 4 significants and 10.9 have 3 significants

so the obtained answer 279.258 rounded off to 3 significant figures.

279.258 = 2.7925 *10^2

               = 2.79 * 10^2 (rounded off to 3 significants)
