hi , i have a question that im confusing about NMR, so if i discover my substance along the line of CxHyOz then how do i know whether it is (CxHyOz)1 or (CxHyOz)2~x ? I have a lab about NMR and IR, can anyone give me a techinque to analyze the chart ? Cause it looks so ugly. ( just some guidance, i want to do it myself first )
Nice question,
The mass analysis will give you the correct answer by its molecular weight. You can perform if you have availability.
From NMR and IR you cant do exactly but you can try if you have both the compounds of (CxHyOz) and (CxHyOz)2. You take exact/ same concentrations of samples and record. based on the height of the peak you can differentiate mono and di-, if want to identify mono and Di.
But it is very difficult to predict or identify the unknown compound.
