what is the difference between arrhenius acids and bases and bronsted- lowry
(a) all arrhenius acids and bases are brønsted lowry acids and bases
b) all brønsted lowry acids and bases are arrhenius acids and bases
c) arrhenius acids and bases are not brønsted lowry acids and bases
d) some arrhenius acids and bases are brønsted lowry acids and bases
Please, explain the answer. i think it is D, but im not sure. explain why you chose the one you chose.
The answer is (a) all arrhenius acids and bases are brønsted lowry acids and bases
bronsted-lowry theroy only adds to arrhenius theory.
According to arrhenius theory.
Acids are substances which produce hydrogen ions in solution.
Bases are substances which produce hydroxide ions in solution.
According to arrhenius theory.
An acid is a proton (hydrogen ion) donor.
A base is a proton (hydrogen ion) acceptor.
According to arrhenius theory NH3 is not a base because it cannot produce hydroxide ions in solution.
but according bronsted-lowry theory it is base because it is a proton (hydrogen ion) acceptor.
