How many moles of N are in 0.247 g of H2O?

? mol N

Homework Answers

Answer #1

I think the question should be:

How many moles of N are in 0.247 gm of N2O?

Here, N is Nitrogen which has an AMU (Atomic Mass Unit) = 14

O is Oxygen which has an AMU (Atomic Mass Unit) = 16

Also, each molecule of N2O has 3 as the total number of molecules

Thus, total atomic mass unit of N2O = (2 x14) + 16 = 28 + 16 = 44 amu

Hence, 1 mol of N2O = 44 gm

According to the question,

0.247 gm/44gm = 0.005613 mol of N2O

Since, each molecule of N2O comprises of 2 N, therefore, we will multiply the above answer by 2

So, 0.005613 mol x 2 = 0.01122 mol of N

There are 0.01122 mol of N in 0.247 gm of N2O.
