A sheet of aluminum foil (25 in. x 25 in.) weighs 5 oz. and is 0.20 in. thick. What is the density (in g/cm3) of the sheet of aluminum foil?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

1 oz = 28.3 g

1 inch = 2.54 cm

mass of aluminuim foil = 5 oz = 5 x 28.3 g = 141.5 g

volume of aluminuim foil = area x thickness

= 25 in x 25 in x  0.2 in

= 25 x 25 x  0.2 x (in)3

      =  25 x 25 x  0.2 x (2.54 cm)3

We know that

Density = mass / volume

= [141.5 g] /  [25 x 25 x  0.2 x (2.54 cm)3]

= 0.069 g/cm3

Therefore,   the density of the sheet of aluminum foil =  0.069 g/cm3
