List the following aqueous solutions in order of increasing boiling point:

-1.2.3.4.

0.20 M NaCl

-1.2.3.4.

0.25 M MgCl2

-1.2.3.4.

0.20 M Sucrose

-1.2.3.4.

0.40 M Sucrose

Explain.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Since boiling point is collogative property

Boiling point increases with increase in number of particle for an aqueous solution. For the above said solutions 0.40 M sucrose solution have higher boiling point than 0.20 M sucrose solution

Incase of sodium chloride it will produce two particales in aqueous solution sodium ion and chloride ion in case magnesium chloride it will produce three ions magnesium ion and two chloride ions in aqueous solution therefore 0.25 M magnesium chloride have higher boiling point than 0.20M sodium chloride hence overall boiling point order is

0.4 M sucrose >0.20M sucrose>0.25M magnesium chloride>0.20 M sodium chloride
