Question

Please balance this equation! __H2O2 +__I-+__H+ ===> _I3- + __H2O

Please balance this equation!
__H2O2 +__I-+__H+ ===> _I3- + __H2O

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Balanced chemical equation:

A balanced chemical equation is an equation that contains same number of atoms as well as of each element on each side of reaction.

__H2O2 +__I-+__H+ ===> _I3- + __H2O

In the above reaction I3- on the right, there must be 3 I's on the left

3 I- + ___ H2O2 + ___ H+ ==> 1 I3_ + ___ H2O

Each H2O2 on the left will give one O to create 2 H2O on the right side as follows:

3 I- + 1 H2O2 + ___ H+ ==> 1 I3_ + 2 H2O

Now to create two water molecules, requires 2 H+ ions which reacts with O as follows:

3 I- + 1 H2O2 + 2 H+ ==> 1 I3_ + 2 H2O

To cross check the above reaction:

Atom__left__right

I______3____3

O_____2____2

H_____4____4
