I did a EDTA titration in lab. I need to find the amount of zinc in a cough drop which was dissolved in 0.05L of acetate buffer (pH 5.5). It took 0.0235L of EDTA to reach the endpoint. EDTA was 3.78g/L. How do I find the mg of zince in the cough drop?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

EDTA reacts with Zn2+ in 1:1 ratio, hence the chemical reaction will be as follow,

EDTA + Zn2+Zn(EDTA)

No. of moles of EDTA used in titration = No. of moles of Zn2+ ions in cough drop

Strength of EDTA = 3.78g in 1L

Strength = Molarity x molecular mass

Molecular mass of EDTA = 292.24g/mol

Molarity of EDTA = Strength / Molecular mass = 3.78/292.24 = 0.012M

No. of moles of EDTA = molarity x volume of solution used = 0.012 x 0.0235 = 0.3 x 10-3

Mass of Zn in cough drop = 0.3 x 10-3 x 65.38 = 0.0198g

So my chemistry class did a titration using EDTA and seawater. We were trying to determine the amount of calcium and magnesium in the water. We did two different runs one which told us the amount of ca+mg and one which told us the amount of ca only. I have the moleculare weights, the amount of EDTA used. How do I find the amount of Ca and the amount of Mg?

Sulfide ion was determined by indirect titration with EDTA. To a solution containing 25.00mL of 0.04332 M Cu(ClO4)2 plus 15mL of 1M acetate buffer (pH 4.5) was added 25.00ml of unknown sulfide solution with vigorous stirring. The CuS precipitate was filtered and washed with hot water. Ammonia was added to the filtrate (which contains excess Cu2+) until the blue color of Cu(NH3)42+ was observed. Titration of the filtrate with 0.03927M EDTA required 12.11mL of EDTA to reach the end point...

In the lab(titrations based on complex formation), we determined the magnesium by direct titration using EDTA and determined the calcium by displacement and back titration. I know you cant use back or displacement titration using EDTA to determine Mg concentration. However can you do back or displacement titrations using another reagent to determine Mg concenteation?

Determining vitamin c lab For two samples which were apple juice and lime juice. Did not extract because foods were liquids. Titrated with DCIP. Titration for apple juice was total amount of DCIP 10.33ml. How do I set up this problem to get vitamin c per ml solution??? Also standard titration of DCIP was 2.5 mg vitamin c / 13.38 ml DCIP= 0.187 mg vit c/ ml DCIP

I need to find the pKa and Ka value of CH3COOH for my Acid-Base titration experiment. It’s pH before titration is 2.37 pH at equivalence point is 9.17 [H3O+] before titration is .00427 [H3O+] at equivalence point is 0.99 (Don’t know if it’s needed but the midpoint on the titration curve is (5.5ml, 7.49ph) . . Step by step explanation would be helpful!
