Calculate the standard entropy change for the following reaction at 25 °C. S° 2CH3OH(g)+3O2(g)=2CO2(g)+4H2O(g)

Homework Answers

Answer #1

2CH3OH(g)+3O2(g)=2CO2(g)+4H2O(g)

delta So (CH3OH) = 239.81 J/mol-K
delta So (O2) = 205.14 J/mol-K
delta So (CO2) = 213.74 J/mol-K
delta So (H2O) = 188.83 J/mol-K

delta So (Rxn) = 2*delta So (CO2) +4*delta So (H2O) - 2*delta So (CH3OH) - 3*delta So (O2)
                             = 2*213.74 + 4*188.83 - 2*239.81 - 3*205.14
                             = 87.76 J/mol-K

Answer: 87.76 J/mol-K
