In this lab, the point was to find out if mass and volume are conserved in a chemical experiment. Water was added to water and measurments were taken. Then, Water was added to acetone and the same measurement were taken. I know that mass is conserved and volume is not. I do not understand the following questions:

Does the order of adding water to acetone or acetone to water change anything? Why or why not?

During this particular experiment, the control for conservation of volume was mixing water with water. What would be another control experiment that could have been done to test conservation of volume?

any help would be appreciated, i'm just trying to understand the concept

Well, in the first question, the only difference I see is that acetone will have more opportunity to evaporate if water is added second, because of the time you take to incorporate the water mass. Other than that, I see no reason why the order should be different.

Other experiments that could be used as controls could involve susbstances of similar density and little reactivity between them, in those, density will stay constant or very closely to constant, as well as volume and mass, which is the purpose of the control.

I'm doing a chemistry lab, where I have to determine the molar mass of an unknown after finding the vapor density. So basically, I have to put 3 test-tubes in a hot water bath, after measuring their volume, and mass the test tube + condensed unknown. So, if, hypothetically, there was some unknown liquid left in the test tube when we were massing the test tube after we heated them, how would the experimental molar mass change? Would it increase...

I recently performed a lab on Chemical Equilibrium. Here is some background on the experiment: -We made a stock solution by combining Fe(NO3)3 and NH4SCN. This made a blood red solution. Then, we added different reagents to see the change of color and the shift of equilibrium. I'm being asked the following question: Based on the color of solutions reported, determine the direction of the reaction's: Fe^3+(aq)+SCN^- --> [FeSCN]^2+(aq) equilibrium shift upon each addition of each reagent investigated and write...

Below is the background info for the lab assignment. The 4 blank boxes are the questions I would like answers too. And the coarse titration I got 35.36mL as the end point. 35.9 mL is exact in case you need that info. Thanks! Place a piece of copper wire in a weighing paper, determine the mass of the wire and place it in the centrifuge tube. The copper wire should weigh less than 0.0200 grams. 3. In a fume hood, add seven drops of concentrated nitric acid to the reaction tube so that the copper metal dissolves completely. Describe your observations in the lab report. Cholera and other diarrheal diseases cause nearly 2 billion cases of diarrhea annually. Cholera toxin and other bacterial toxins cause the intestine to secrete fluid into the lumen of the gut, depleting the extracellular fluid (ECF) volume. If fluid loss is not matched with fluid intake (law of mass balance), the result is severe dehydration, circulatory collapse, and even death. Drinking a rehydration solution is the most rapid and effective way to replace the large volumes of water lost by...
