What is an infusible plastic? What type of polymeric structure is it likely to have?
Infusible plastic is plastic which cannot be melted or changed to a different form. Such types of plastics are formed by uncontrolled heating of plastics as in thermosetting polymer processing. The material after thermosetting processing is a highly crosslinked solid polymer with high melting point. The melting point is higher than decomposition temperature of the polymer itself. Thus these cannot be melted without decomposing and are known as infusible polymer or plastics. These materials are highly crosslinked polymeric structures.
