Calculate the pH of a solution prepared by dissolving 2.00 g of calcium hydroxide in one liter of water.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

molar mass of Ca(OH)2 is 74

volume of solution is 1L

weight of solute is 2gm

molarity = weight of solute /gram molar mass *volume of solution in L

          = 2/74 *1

          = 0.027 M

Ca(OH)2 -----> Ca+2 + 2OH-1

[OH-] = 2[Ca(OH)2]

         = 2*0.027 =0.054 M

POH = -log[OH]

       = -log0.054

POH = 1.2676

PH = 14-POH

    = 14-1.2676

   = 12.7324 >>>> answer
