How much sodium chloride would need to be added to 0.22 L of water to raise the boiling point by 2.2 oC?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

T = i*m*kb

vant hoff factor = 2(Na+ + Cl-)

2.2 = 2*m*0.52

m = 2.2/1.04 = 2.21m

weight of water = volume in ml * density

                      = 0.22*1000*1 = 220gm

molality = mass of solute *1000/gram molar mass * weightof water in gm

2.21       = mass of solute*1000/58.5*220

2,21   = mass of solute*1000/12870

mass of solute = 2.21*12870/1000 = 28.4427gm

mass of sodium chloride = 28.4427gm
