Answer #1

You are provided with 5.72 g  SO2 to react with 2.04 g  O2. Indicate your theoretical yield by completing the following statements.

mol of SO2 = mass/MW = 5.72/64.066 = 0.089282 mol of SO2

mol of O2 = mass/MW = 2.04/32 = 0.06375 mol of O2

so..

ratio is SO2 + 1/2O2 --> SO3

0.089282 mol of SO2 --> 0.089282 /2 = 0.044641 mol of O2 required, we have 0.06375 thereofre O2 is in excess

limitin greactant --> SO2

then

SO2 : SO3 is 1:1

0.089282 mol of SO2 can form 0.089282 mol of SO3

mass = mol*MW = 0.089282 *80.066 = 7.14845 g of SO3

then

excess reagent was O2

excess mass = (initial mol - mol reacted ) =0.06375 -0.044641 = 0.019109mol of O2 left

mass = mol left * MW = 0.019109*32 = 0.61148 g of O2
