If a mixture of dichloromethan:hexanes (1:1) is used in TLC as a solvent. The more non polar the reactant is the lower it’s Rf value will be and the more polar the reactant is the higher it’s Rf value will be. Is this correct?

In chromatography, the separation takes place due to difference in affintity of substance towards stationary phase and mobile phase.

In TLC, stationary phase is silica or alumina (polar) that is why polar substances have higher affinity towards stationary phase as compared to mobile Phase. Hence they move slower as compared to non polar substances.

Methametically, Rf = distance travelled by component / distance travelled by mobile solvent

So, polar substance moves slower and have low Rf value as compared to non-polar substances.
