Estimate the Boyloe temperature of Ar using the Van Der Waals, Berthelot, and RK forms for the second virial coefficient. The observed value is at 410K

Homework Answers

Answer #1

We use following formula to get second virial coefficient.

B = b- (a/RT)

Here

B : second virial coefficient.

R = 0.08206 L atm / ( K mol)     it is gas constant. T is temperature in K = 410 K

a and b are the Van der Waals constant of Ar.

We have to look standard table for these values.

a = 1.355 L2 bar/mol2 , b = 0.03201 L/mol

Lets plug these value in above equation to get second virial coefficient.

B = 0.03201 L/mol   - [ 1.355 L2 bar/mol2 / (0.08206 L atm per (K mol)x 410 K ) ]

=-0.00826

So the value of B = - 0.00826
