The power of a red laser (λ = 630 nm) is 3.75 watts (abbreviated W, where 1 W = 1 J/s). How many photons per second does the laser emit?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

E   = hc/

    = 630nm = 630*10^-9 m

h    = 6.625*10^-34 j-sec

C    = 3*10^8 m/sec

E   = hc/

     = 6.625*10^-34 * 3*10^8/630*10^-9

      = 3.15*10^-19 J

3.75 watts    = 3.75J/sec

                     = 3.75J/sec/3.15*10^-19 J/photon    = 1.2*10^19 photon/sec
