Why is the Ca2+ concentration in seawater so high?
Na+ ion has the highest cation concentration in sea water. After Na+, next comes Ca2+. This is because Ca comes from a lot of sources like due to weathering of rocks and minerals, which are carried into seas and oceans from the rivers flowing by the mountains. Also, this Ca keeps on getting deposited as carbonates in the form of coral reefs. So this deposition is the main reason that Ca2+ ion is relatively high since it does not go in any biochemical cycles.
